Harassment and Anti-Social Behaviour Policy

Dynamic Rides CC (DRCC) is committed to providing a cycling club environment free from bullying and harassment. We aim to ensure that all members are treated, and treat others, with dignity and respect. We also expect DRCC members to uphold the highest standards of personal behaviour at all times whilst engaged on club activities.

This policy covers bullying or harassment and anti-social behaviour which occurs before, during or after club rides, cycling events where club members are involved, any social functions related to DRCC, or via social media.  This policy applies to all DRCC members.

Harassment

Harassment is any unwanted conduct that has the purpose or effect of violating a person's dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for them. A single incident can amount to harassment. A person may be harassed even if they were not the intended ‘target’.

It is unlawful to harass a person because of their age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

Harassment is unacceptable even if it does not fall within any of these categories. Examples of harassment include, but are not limited to:

• offensive emails, text messages or social media content or the display of offensive material;

• unwanted jokes, banter, mocking, mimicking or belittling a person;

• unwanted physical conduct including touching, pinching, pushing and grabbing;

• unwelcome sexual advances or suggestive behaviour.

Bullying

Bullying is offensive, intimidating, malicious or insulting behaviour, an abuse or misuse of power through means that undermine, humiliate, denigrate or injure the recipient. Bullying can include the use of personal strength or the power to coerce through fear or intimidation, not necessarily from someone in a position of authority. Bullying may be physical, verbal or non-verbal. It can include conduct that is not face-to-face, including via text message, email and social media.

Examples of bullying include, but are not limited to:

• physical or psychological threats;

• overbearing and intimidating levels of contact;

• inappropriate derogatory remarks about a person;

• persistently picking on people in front of others or in private;

• regularly and deliberately ignoring or excluding a club member from rides or social events;

• regularly making the same person the butt of jokes.

Anti-Social Behaviour

Anti-social behaviour towards a fellow club member, a member of DR staff or a member of the general public constitutes unacceptable personal conduct in the eyes of the club.

Anti-social behaviour covers a wide range of unacceptable activity that causes harassment, alarm or distress to an individual, to their community or to their environment.

Examples of anti-social behaviour include, but are not limited to:

  • an unwillingness or inability to associate in a normal or friendly way with other people;

  • demonstrating antagonistic, hostile, or unfriendly behaviour towards others including road users or walkers;

  • acting in a menacing or threatening way;

  • acting in disrespectful manner to others;

  • arguing;

  • displaying a lack of moral code;

  • lying;

  • demonstrating a lack of social skills and disregard for others;

  • inability to see consequences;

  • apathy in fulfilling responsibilities;

  • being opposed to the social order and the moral principles on which the club rules are constituted.

Breaches of this Bullying, Harassment and Anti-Social Behaviour Policy are not tolerated at DRCC and all members are required to treat each other, along with members of DR Staff and the general public, with dignity and respect.

Breaches of this policy will be dealt with by the DRCC Committee, and in serious cases, will result in a revocation of club membership.
